Steve's Comments: More or less what I'd expected--certainly it matched the responses I got from the 2003 GDC roundtables. Nearly 1/3 of respondents want to evaluate middleware before making any kind of decision, but virtually the same number don't even know middleware exists! Nearly the same number of folks are adamant fans (13%) as those who clearly aren't (10%).

So the question is--what do middleware developers need to do to make more people interested in their product?
