FINAL RESULTS

Steve's Comments: Wow...more response on this one than I'd thought there would be. It seems like most respondents have at one time or another either played a really cool game, or had one that did one particularly nifty thing. Only a third said they'd never been impressed by anything a game's AI did, which overall has to be at least a bit encouraging for those of us who do this kind of thing-- at least we're doing something right some of the time for some people!

There were several responses from poll-takers as to which games they felt had either wowed them to some degree. Here are some of the more interesting responses:
  • Everquest
  • MechaWarrior 4...the "bots" are GREAT!
  • Thief did an amazing (albeit imperfect) job of making the AI-driven actors seem real.
  • SWAT3. The AI was mostly incredible. A few flaws such as men stuck to corners and turning their backs to openings occasionally don't bother much.
  • Half-life really amazed me, those marines move and act in a so intelligent way.
